The Secrets to Layering
Fall is officially in full swing which means that layering your clothing will become a growing priority. Obviously you want to stay warm but you still want to look sharp. However, it can become difficult to stay sharp as the layers increase. Fortunately, there are a few secrets that can help you look good and stay warm for the Fall and Winter months.
We’ll start with what might be the most obvious rule of layering your clothing which is to layer from thin to thick. Your first layer should be an undershirt or a Henley-style shirt. Over the first layer should be some sort of cardigan, sweater, or vest. Finally, the last layer is your jacket which should be made of heavier style fabric.
Our second secret is that each layer should be able to stand alone. What this means is that every layer you wear is important. No matter how bundled up you are or how layered down you are, each layer should be able to be worn on its own. You never know when you might need to take a layer off or add a layer so it’s best to be prepared.
It’s also important to remember to not go too overboard with colors. Trying to mix and match too many colors can result in a bad outfit. Try to have one color that will pop then have the rest of the layers be more muted colors. You also want to avoid repeating patterns when layering your outfit. Repeating patterns can make your outfit redundant. It’s also difficult to find patterns that will mesh well together.
It takes creativity to lace your own personal style with the art of layering your outfit. Your wardrobe must consist of the correct garments to make great layered outfits. Filling your wardrobe with enough lightweight shirts that will look good underneath classy sweaters, cardigans, and button-ups is a must. You also want a variety of lightweight to heavyweight jackets to finish off your outfit.
Dressing well year-round is a crucial part for most business professionals. It can be difficult but we’re hoping this helps you find your style when layering your outfits. If you need assistance in filling your wardrobe with the proper garments come on in and we’ll be happy to help.
